Cyberspace is really one of the old Rolemaster settings.

Technology have resulted in wars, and earth have collapsed (politically). The civilisation havn't come to the point of exploring space, but have been packed in dense sprawls, large cities who stretches from far under the surface to far up in the sky. The edge of the sprawls are lawless slums (prety much similar to favelas) where people live and police themselves. MegaCorps (superlarge companies) are in control of the sprawls. Between the sprawls are waste land, close to the sprawls some towns can be found, mainly living off gathering food supplies for the sprawls, further away from the sprawls nature is claiming back lost land. Nobody have control in the waste land, and nobody knows where it is safe and not. Uncharted areas can contain high limits of toxic waste or radiation, there might be found ruins of old research or military facilities, lost weapon or equipment, with or without knowledge and information. Exploring these areas can be a gold mine and it can be certain death.

The Sprawls

Neo Tokyo

A large part of Tokyo have slided down after a majore earthquake, and formed what is known as Lower Tokyo, as opposed to Higher Tokyo, which is the higher areas. Lower Tokyo is basically what used to be downtown Tokyo. A large part of this citadel is lower than sea level, and with no barrieres against the sea, water have claimed the streets. The majore streets have now the function of main canals, while the smaller streets are now only minor canals or division between the blocks. Along the main canals small floating docks are tied up, allowing the ferries to moore up for passengers, or barges to moore up with supplies. The smaller canals have mooring points which are often used by the daws. Along the canals old commercial signs can still be seen, many of which reach to under the surface. Many of these signs are still being maintained, and glowing neon letters in blue, green and red is often advertising various products. In the middle of Lower Tokyo is a lagoon with an islet in the middle. On this islet is a temple (this islet was originally a mound, and the old access road goes still from the temple to under water. Around this islet, 4 Mega Corps have put on submerged lightings forming glowing logos and adverds at night. Higher Tokyo is the parts of old Tokyo that remained above sea level. It is mainly high buildings, and many Mega Corps have offices here. This is also the political center and the communicational hub of Neo Tokyo. Around Higher Tokyo on all edges are other suburbs that are a part of Neo Tokyo, and there are elevated causeways linking all these suburbs with Higher Tokyo. The new port is located a good distance south of Lower Tokyo, and large industrial areas are found around the port. Inspirations for designing Neo Tokyo comes from Anime films such as Ghost in the Shell and Akira.
