A colony is an area under control of a nation, often far away. The colony consists of settlers or prospectors from the nation far off, and is governed by a person or group appointed by the mother nations reign or parliament. Colonists are often treated as second class citisens, with less rights and often higher taxes than the population of the mother land, though this is not a given rule.

Other groups living in the colony is regarded often with even less rights than the colonists. Such groups might include native population from before the colony was established, or settlers and prospectors of other origin than the mother land.
